Between 2008 and 2021, I created and executed all event campaigns for Midtown Events, which each consisting of many digital and print deliverables.

During the thirteen year period, I created and curated twenty three event brands, took over 10,000 photos, and created just under 8,000 digital and print deliverables. Deliverables included posters, banners, tent cards, buckslips, sidewalk graphics, online and digital advertisements, social media, and microsites for each event.

Midtown Beach Music Series

This concert series offers the best of Beach Music on warm summer nights and features Shag dancing, a time-honored tradition in the South. Running from April to August and hosting over 125,000 guests during its 18-week season, it is one of the few local free concerts available to the public in Raleigh.

‘Beach Music’ is a southern term that refers to a mix of 1960s and Motown hits. I paid homage to those roots and evoked a mid-to-late 1960s vibe with the brand. Celebrating the beach, the fiery logo really jumps off the sky blue background like the hot sun over the ocean. A faded, distressed background supplies dynamic movement while syntactically referencing the ocean as well as the sun-faded vintage signs that appear along seaside roadways.

Midtown Farmers’ Market

This local “producer’s only” market takes place every Saturday, from April to November and hosts over 60,000 attendees. Market guests enjoy a vast selection of local, organic produce and meats, homemade bread goods, and handmade crafts. Weekly programming includes live music, health and wellness classes, kids’ activities, and “green” events.

While not the oldest farmers’ market in Raleigh, this nostalgic logo makes it seem like the Midtown Farmers’ Market has been around for over 100 years. This stylized, traditional brand is rooted (forgive me for the pun) in seed catalogs and packets from the late 19th century and hearkens back to a simpler time. Vintage engraving-style illustrations and a stained paper background lend authenticity.

North Hills Kids

North Hills Kids is a seasonal series of fun-filled, free events that provides an opportunity for children to come together to learn, exercise, and socialize outdoors. Running from May to August, North Hills Kids hosts over 25,000 attendees.

Seeking to avoid a primary color preschool palette, I created fun, stylized illustrations that relate directly to the outdoor activities of this series. Bold and fun typography, with a chunky and handwritten aesthetic, lend some fun and charming childishness to the affair. The bright red background really makes the black-and-white illustrations leap off the page.
